Romance Writers of New Zealand
My training as a writer has been long and slow.
However, I wouldn't have reached my present standard without the help, support and camaraderie from other members of this organization.
The annual conference, monthly newsletters, email loop and supply of critique partners have all contributed to my improvement as a writer, my confidence in my ability and the new friends I've made.
These have all been invaluable especially since I live some distance from any writers' groups so I'm not able to physically meet with other writers very often.
Members of RWNZ receive a monthly newsletter Heart to Heart and are eligible to enter any or all of the 4 contests run by the association.
Also, members are welcome to join a critique partner register where they are teamed with other writers for exchanging feedback.
Conferences are held every August. To date, all have been in Auckland, although not always at the same venue.
2011 Conference
This was held at the Crown Plaza Hotel, Auckland, from 19-20 August.
A full day workshop with Bob Mayer on Friday 18th was well worth while attending.
Unfortunately clashing with this in the afternoon was another useful workshop with Maria V. Snyder.
Other weekend speakers included Molly O'Keefe, writer of SuperRomance novels and Tess Gerritsen, NYT bestselling author.
Altogether a well-worthwhile conference with several enjoyable get-togethers.
